Program Overview:

Lighting design concerns the creation of interior and exterior spaces for work and pleasure. It is a vital part of architecture and interior design. This program was the first graduate program in English; established in 1979. Its emphasis is on producing competent lighting designers by introducing you to the multidisciplinary background of lighting knowledge. This forms the basis of the design process that follows. This is a professional program for architects, interior designers, engineers, ergonomists and related professionals who wish to develop expertise in illumination and lighting design.

Tuition:

Lectures, laboratory, studio and other practical work.
This program runs on a 2 year cycle, the next cycle starts in 2013.
Fee-paying program for domestic and international students.

Curriculum:

  • Core units of study: Vision and Visual Perception; The Visual Field and Human Factors; Photometric and Colorimetric Concepts and Mensuration; Light Sources and Luminaires; Daylight in Buildings; Lighting Design.
  • Option and Elective units: Lighting Design Masterclass; Lighting Design Software; Lighting Photography; Theatre and Performance Lighting; Graduate Internship; Introduction to Building Services; Energy Management in Buildings; and students are encouraged to choose electives from any graduate program.
